Come all ye flour-flinging lads and lassies and enter our fourth annual Shortbread Competition!
Do you have a beloved family recipe? Do you like to bake and try new things? If so, we want you
join the Shortbread Competition at the 2019 Ormond Beach Celtic Festival
SHORTBREAD CONTEST COMPETITION RULES
Judging will be at the Ormond Beach MainStreet booth at 1 pm on Saturday, April 13th.
The recipe for the shortbread is your own choice. You may enter as many batches as you wish.
Submit six (6) pieces of shortbread (per entry) for judging.
- 1. Presentation will be at your discretion-- on a disposable dish, but feel creative.
- 2. You may enter as many times as you like, but each entry must be in its own Non-Returnable presentation dish and have its own entry form. Two entries on one presentation dish will be disqualified.
- 3. Indicate whether your entry is "Traditional" or "Modern". The shortbread may be entered into either category. However, the judges may at their discretion alter the category of the entry if they do not agree with the categorization by the entrant.
- 4. Entrants must not use pre-made, store-bought dough.
- 5. Please Do Not label your container with your name.
- 6. Entries must be submitted at the Ormond Beach MainStreet tent by 12:30 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2019.
- 7. Decisions of the judges are final.
- 8. All entries become the property of the Ormond Beach MainStreet.
Categories:
Traditional Shortbread
Traditional recipes reflecting the regions of Scotland and presented in the traditional shapes (Petticoat, Tails, Fingers, etc.) ."Traditional" means shortbread made using the primary ingredients of flour, butter and sugar; other ingredients will not disqualify the shortbread as traditional, but should not materially alter the traditional taste.
Modern Shortbread
Let your imagination go wild in the true Celt spirit. Use of non-traditional ingredients such as colors, flavors, exotic spices, toppings, and shapes will be judged on culinary and artistic creativity. Have fun with this category.
Prizes
Each category will be awarded prizes in 1st through 3rd place and you will, of course, have the all-important bragging rights for all of 2018. The grand prizewinner will receive a prize basket worth approximately $200 from Kerrygold USA.
